Southern Chocolate Cobbler Recipe

Ingredients
For the Batter:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
For the Topping:
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3 cups boiling water
- Vanilla ice cream, for serving
Instructions
- Preheat & Melt Butter: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Place butter in a 9×13-inch baking dish and put it in the oven until melted. Remove and set aside.
- Prepare the Batter: In a bowl, mix 1 1/2 cups sugar, 4 tablespoons cocoa powder, flour, baking powder, salt, milk, and vanilla extract. Spoon the batter over the melted butter, but do not stir.
- Add the Topping: In a separate bowl, combine the remaining 2 cups sugar and 1/2 cup cocoa powder. Sprinkle evenly over the batter.
- Pour Boiling Water: Carefully pour the boiling water over the topping mixture. Do not stir.
- Bake: Bake for 35-40 minutes, until the top has set. The bottom will be loose and gooey.
- Cool & Serve: Let cool for 15 minutes. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream. Enjoy!
