Crispy Deep-Fried Chicken Batter

A light, crispy, and flavorful batter that gives your fried chicken that perfect crunch!
Ingredients:
1 cup all-purpose flour
½ cup cornstarch (for extra crispiness!)
1 teaspoon baking powder (for a light, airy texture)
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon paprika
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
1 cup cold water or soda water (for a light, crispy batter!)
Optional: 1 egg (for added richness & binding)
10 chicken drumsticks
Instructions:
Prepare the Batter:
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, baking powder, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
Add Liquid:
Gradually pour in cold water or soda water while whisking continuously until you get a smooth, lump-free batter. If using, whisk in the egg for extra richness.
Coat the Chicken:
Pat the chicken drumsticks dry with a paper towel. Dip each drumstick into the batter, ensuring an even, thick coating.
Heat the Oil:
Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pan to 350°F (175°C).
Fry Until Golden & Crispy:
Carefully place battered drumsticks into the hot oil. Fry for 12-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown and cooked through.
Drain & Serve:
Remove from oil and place on a wire rack or paper towels to drain excess oil.
Pro Tip: Sprinkle with a little extra salt immediately after frying for the best flavor!
Serving Suggestions:
Pair with fries, coleslaw, or mac & cheese
Spice it up with cayenne pepper or hot sauce in the batter!
Serve with pickles & dipping sauces like ranch, BBQ, or honey mustard
Enjoy your perfectly crispy, deep-fried chicken!
