Ingredients
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp ketchup
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ¼ tsp onion powder
- ¼ tsp smoked paprika
- Salt & pepper, to taste
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 package egg roll wrappers
- Neutral oil, for frying (vegetable or canola)
Instructions
1️⃣ Sauté the Aromatics
In a skillet over medium-high heat, warm the olive oil. Add the diced onion and minced garlic, and cook for 2–3 minutes until soft and fragrant.
2️⃣ Cook the Beef
Add the ground beef to the skillet. Break it apart with a spoon and cook until no longer pink. Drain any excess fat if needed.
3️⃣ Season the Filling
Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer for a minute to meld the flavors, then remove from heat.
4️⃣ Add the Cheese
Let the meat mixture cool slightly, then stir in the shredded cheddar cheese. It should get a little melty and irresistible.
5️⃣ Roll It Up
Lay an egg roll wrapper on a clean surface like a diamond. Spoon about 2–3 tablespoons of the beef filling into the center.
Wet the edges of the wrapper with water. Fold the bottom corner up over the filling, then fold in the sides, and roll tightly. Seal the final edge with water. Repeat with the rest!
6️⃣ Fry to Perfection
In a clean skillet, heat about ½ inch of oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, fry the eggrolls in batches, turning every 2–3 minutes, until golden brown and crispy.
Transfer to a plate lined with paper towels to drain.
7️⃣ Serve & Dip
Serve hot with your favorite sauces! Ketchup, mustard, spicy mayo, or even a burger-style dipping sauce are perfect.
Tips & Variations
- Cheese swap: Pepper jack, mozzarella, or Colby jack all work beautifully.
- Add-ins: Try diced pickles, mushrooms, or bell peppers for a fun twist.
- Baked version: Brush eggrolls with oil and bake at 400°F for 12–15 minutes, flipping halfway.
