Servings: 4 (as appetizer or 2–3 as main)
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: About 25 minutes

Ingredients

For the Shrimp:

  • 1 lb (about 450g) shrimp, peeled and deveined (tail-on for presentation, optional)
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • Oil, for frying (vegetable, canola, or avocado) or cooking spray for air frying

For the Bang Bang Sauce:

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup sweet chili sauce
  • 1–2 tablespoons sriracha (adjust for desired heat)
  • 1 tablespoon honey or sugar
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar or fresh lime juice

Optional Garnishes:

  • Sliced green onions
  • Sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Coat the Shrimp
Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels.
In a large bowl or zip-top bag, toss the shrimp with cornstarch, salt, and black pepper until evenly coated. Shake off any excess.
  2. Cook the Shrimp (Choose your method):
  • Deep Fry Method
Heat oil in a deep pan or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
Fry shrimp in batches for 2–3 minutes until golden and crispy. Avoid overcrowding.
Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a wire rack or paper towels.
  • Air Fryer Method
Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
Lightly spray coated shrimp with oil (or cooking spray).
Arrange in a single layer in the basket (cook in batches if needed).
Air fry for 8–10 minutes, shaking or flipping halfway, until golden and crispy.
  1. Make the Bang Bang Sauce
In a medium bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, honey (or sugar), and rice vinegar/lime juice until smooth and creamy. Taste and adjust heat or sweetness as needed.
  2. Toss & Serve
While shrimp are hot, toss them in the sauce until evenly coated (do this right before serving to keep them crispy!).
Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds if desired.

Serving Ideas:

  • Over jasmine rice or fried rice for a full meal
  • In soft tacos or lettuce wraps for a fun twist
  • As a party appetizer with toothpicks
  • On top of a fresh salad for spicy crunch

Tips & Variations

  • For maximum crispiness, toss in sauce just before eating—sauce softens the coating over time.
  • Dial up the heat: Add extra sriracha, chili oil, or red pepper flakes.
  • Make it lighter: Use Greek yogurt instead of mayo for a tangier, lower-fat version.
  • Prep ahead: Coat shrimp and make sauce in advance; fry right before serving.
  • Leftovers? Re-crisp in air fryer at 375°F for 3–4 minutes, then re-toss lightly in sauce.

Get ready for that perfect creamy-spicy-sweet bite—it’s dangerously good! 🍤🔥✨
