Ingredients

French Toast Base:

  • 1 loaf French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 can (15 oz) sliced peaches in syrup, drained
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1 tsp ground nutmeg

Crumb Topping:

  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ cup cold butter, cubed

Instructions

1. Prepare the French Toast Base

  • Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Spread the cubed French bread evenly into the dish.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon.
  • Pour this custard mixture evenly over the bread cubes, making sure all pieces are soaked. Gently press the bread down to help it absorb.

2. Add the Peaches

  • Scatter the drained peach slices across the top of the soaked bread.
  • Drizzle the melted butter over the peaches and sprinkle with nutmeg.

3. Make the Crumb Topping

  • In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon.
  • Cut in the cold butter with a fork or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Sprinkle the topping over the entire dish.

4. Bake

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until the top is golden and the custard is set.

5. Serve

  • Let it cool for about 10 minutes before serving.
  • Add a drizzle of maple syrup, a scoop of whipped cream, or a dusting of powdered sugar for an extra sweet finish.

Recipe Notes

  • Make-Ahead Friendly: Assemble the night before, cover, and refrigerate. Just bake in the morning!
  • Fresh Peaches? Yes please! Use 2–3 fresh sliced peaches when in season.
  • Add Crunch: A sprinkle of chopped pecans or granola on top adds a nice texture.
