Grilled Beef with Perilla Leaves & Dipping Sauce 🥩🌿

A Korean & Japanese-inspired dish featuring tender grilled beef, fresh perilla leaves, and a savory-sweet dipping sauce.

Ingredients

For the Beef:

  • 1 lb beef (sirloin or ribeye), thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp ginger, minced
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • 10-12 fresh perilla leaves (or shiso leaves)
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds (optional)

For the Dipping Sauce:

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp honey (or sugar)
  • 1 tsp chili flakes (optional)
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Marinate the Beef

1️⃣ In a large bowl, mix soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, salt, and pepper.
2️⃣ Add the thinly sliced beef, coat evenly, and marinate for at least 30 minutes.

Step 2: Grill the Beef

1️⃣ Heat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat.
2️⃣ Grill each beef slice for 2-3 minutes per side, until caramelized and cooked through.

Step 3: Make the Dipping Sauce

1️⃣ In a small bowl, whisk together:
Soy sauce
Rice vinegar
Sesame oil
Honey
Chili flakes (if using)
Sesame seeds (if using)

Step 4: Assemble & Serve

1️⃣ Arrange the grilled beef on a plate.
2️⃣ Garnish with fresh perilla leaves & sprinkle sesame seeds if desired.
3️⃣ Serve with the dipping sauce on the side.
